SAINT-ETIENNE

Place du Peuple

The place du Peuple (People's square) is the oldest one in Saint-Etienne, previously called the Fair-ground square. It was from this symbolically named square that Resistants called upon the townspeople to assemble and sing the Marseillaise; the photo is one of the rare testimonials.
