Lieu d'internement

In the night of December 31, 1940, the internment center at Pellevoisin (in Indre, in central France), near the Line of Demarcation, was transferred to Ardèche as a protective measure: Pierre Laval had been dismissed on December 13, 1940, and relations between Vichy and the Germans were tense.

The accommodation the was chosen, while waiting for the Grand Baths Hotel to be available, was M. Savel's Hotel Bellevue, located on Airette Square in Aubenas. Prisoners included Paul Reynaud, Georges Mandel, Marx Dormoy, Vincent Auriol, Jules Moch, Salomon Grumbach, Charles Pomaret, Antoine Montel, Raymond Philippe, Paul-Louis Weiller, Marcel Bloch, Jacques Moutet, Emile Dewoitine, Marcel Singer and Wladimir Sokolowsky.
