Plaque commémorative

Plaque in memory of Pierre Kaan on the outside of the Emile Zola school. Kaan worked closely with Jean Moulin, playing an essential role in unifying the resistance movements. He was arrested by the Gestapo on December 29, 1943 and deported to Buchenwald on April 14, 1944. He was released on May 8 by Tchech partisans at Bujovice, but died ten days later, greatly weakened. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre with Palm, and named posthumously to the Legion of Honor in 1946 and promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel on August 18, 1948.
