Stone marker in memory of a Halifax aircraft that crashed in a ravine at Bottle hill in the night of September 15-16, 1943, after participating in the bombing run on the Dunlop plant at Montluçon. When it was hit by incendiary shells, they looked about to land. Supple young trees softened the crash. D.-W.-M. Smith, commander, C. Heywood, mechanic, H. Dereniuk, bombardier, J.-M. Nelmes, upper turret gunner, E.-N. Bell, co-pilot, et M. Forman, tail gunner, E.-B. Mason, navigator, et R.-O. Malins, radioman, parachuted out; they all got out unharmed except M. Forman, who sustained serious vertebral injuries.
