Complete description of site

In 1984, veterans of the Secret Army of the Loire Département set up the Départemental Museum of the Secret Army and the Resistance. In 1999, to contextualize the regional combats of the Liberation in the history of the twentieth century, the enlarged and modernized museographic itinerary took up the themes of World War I and then the war in Indochina and the Algerian War. The museography is designed to appeal to a youth audience in an original and targeted way. Displays, adapted text documents and an audiovisual system were put together so that visitors of all ages can easily understand.

Today the museum has been taken over by the city, and has extended and broadened the ex-Resistants’ work. The original collections have been enriched with large numbers of documents and objects dealing with the first world war, decolonization and the evolution of society in the twentieth century. A space in the permanent exhibit devoted to Lucien Neuwirth was opened in 2015. A temporary exhibit is featured every year.

Bearing witness, explaining and transmitting are the objectives of this citizen museum.
