Lieu d'internement

Starting on June 24, 1940, Spanish refugees were housed in Saint-Jean-Chambre. On August 10, there were 35 of them, from Ambérieu in Ain. In the autumn of 1940, they were sent to "rural work-sites" in the Joyeuse area, the conscripted into the Foreign Worker Groups which Vichy had created in September.
